If we are going to lay blame for the spread of the COVID-19 virus, then let us lay it squarely at the feet of the Chinese Communist Party. It and it alone is responsible for the deaths and mayhem wrought by this corona virus.
In recent days, the CCP has tried to present itself as some sort of global savior for its authoritarian lock down of vast portions of China.
State-run media is praising the actions of authorities for its efforts to contain the virus and holding up China as a model for other countries, going as far as to blame the United States and South Korea for their alleged failures.
Please. This is such nonsense.
When doctors first noticed this new virus in early December and tried to alert authorities, what was the government’s response?
- Did CCP officials notify the World Health Organization?
- Did CCP officials mobilize its own disease control agency?
- Did CCP officials ever once think a new virus might be a cause for concern?
The answer to all those is a resounding NO.
What the CCP officials did was arrest the whistle blower doctor, Li Wenliang, and six of his colleagues and force them to write a letter saying they were exaggerating things.
Weeks later when the virus’ existence could no longer be ignored, China officially notified WHO and the rest of the world.
By that time, however, the virus had already gone rogue and was killing people at an alarming rate.
Worse, Chinese officials refused to share information critical to virologists’ understanding the spread of the disease.
CCP researchers blamed the outbreak of the virus on the wild meat markets, but have yet to share any of their actual surveys of the markets.
In fact, for the past two months, the CCP has done everything in its power to keep information about the virus from leaking out. That we know anything at all is because extremely brave souls have risked everything to get news out.
And then to contain the damage the CCP adopted some of the most authoritarian approaches the world has ever seen, all the while refusing help from the United States and other Western countries.
As a consequence, some of China’s major cities are shut down. Factories are closed. Schools are closed. Events have been canceled. The cost to its economy is staggering.
And as we have seen recently with the stock market declines, the cost to the world economy is just as staggering.
And it’s all because China is an authoritarian communist country that seeks to control every aspect of its citizens’ lives.
